              • ABOUT THE BARRELS

Busted Barrel’s hand-crafted one-of-a-kind fire pits are made from white oak, one of the strongest and most durable woods on the planet. White oak is naturally water and rot-resistant due to its closed cellular structure. It’s been widely used in shipbuilding, as well as interior and exterior construction, for centuries. All Busted Barrel furniture and accessories come from the finest hand-picked white oak barrels. The barrels live out their lifespan as vessels that age the finest wines around the world, especially the Napa Valley region. Then, Bustel Barrel upcycles these barrels into some of the finest, most durable, artistic furnishings that you could ever own.

              • About Busted Barrel Furniture Company

Founded in 2016 Busted Barrel Furniture Co. is the venture of Barrel-Meister Doug King. Upon discovering retirement isn’t all it's cracked up to be, the veteran business analyst and programmer took up woodworking. A lifelong passion for handmade crafts led to the creation of his first chair. He comes from a long line of carpenters on his father's side, so naturally, he is a woodworker by heart.

What began as a small venture at a local farmer’s market quickly grew into an encore career, with prepaid orders booked 6 weeks in advance. Each piece is hand-crafted and one-of-a-kind, but most importantly, each is made with pride. Because no two barrels are the same, Doug’s process focuses on shaping his furnishings based on the natural characteristics of the materials. He describes his work as creating an image out of many jigsaw pieces.

Doug is married to his wonderful and supportive wife, Kathy. In 2011, they adopted a beautiful newborn baby girl, Annie. Although she came into the world fighting for her life, Annie is now healthy and full of happiness.

If he’s not in his shop creating something new, you will more than likely find Doug on the slopes, fly-fishing in the middle of a river, mountain biking, or hiking the many wonderful trails in the Tri-Lakes area.

              • Q: Are Busted Barrel fire pits made in the USA?

A: All Busted Barrel fire features are handmade by Doug King, in Monument, Colorado. Many of the barrels are sourced from the USA as well, especially the Napa Valley Region.

Q: Can the fire pit be installed on a deck?

A: Always use Busted Barrel fire features on a hard, level non-combustible surface such as concrete, rock, or stone. An asphalt or blacktop surface may not be acceptable for this purpose. Surfaces such as dirt and grass may prevent the unit from having proper ventilation. See the USE + SAFETY tab for more information.

Q: I am concerned about rainwater getting inside the item. Does the cover make it waterproof?

A: This product is designed for outdoor use, and features built-in burner pan drainage. So, a little rain shouldn't be too much trouble. However, we do suggest using the included cover to protect the fire pit when it is not in use. A cover will help keep debris and water out of the glass media.

Q: Is the propane tank hidden inside the fire pit?

A: Yes, there is space inside the barrel to store a 20lb propane tank.

Q:Can this fire pit use a direct line from a natural gas or propane source, instead of a small tank?

A:Yes. The fire pit comes ready and equipped to connect to a 20 lb. Liquid Propane gas tank. You will need a certified gas supplier or a local gas professional to reconfigure the gas connection in order to connect this to a plumbed line.

              • INSTALLATION + USE

Always use Busted Barrel fire features on a hard, level non-combustible surface such as concrete, rock, or stone. An asphalt or blacktop surface may not be acceptable for this purpose. Surfaces such as dirt and grass may prevent the unit from having proper ventilation.

Maintain minimum clearance of 48” around all sides surrounding the fire pit. Do not use under any overhead structure or near any unprotected combustible constructions. Avoid using near or under overhanging trees and shrubs. The fire feature must be used ONLY outdoors in a well-ventilated space and shall NOT be used inside a building, garage, or any other enclosed area. • Warning Pursuant to Proposition 65

Proposition 65, officially the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, is a law that requires warnings to be provided to California consumers when they might be exposed to chemicals identified by California as causing cancer or reproductive toxicity. The warnings are intended to help California consumers make informed decisions about their exposures to these chemicals from the products they use. The California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) administers the Proposition 65 program and publishes the listed chemicals, which includes more than 850 chemicals. In August 2016, OEHHA adopted new regulations, effective on August 30, 2018, which change the information required in Proposition 65 warnings.

Some of the products offered on this site may contain chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and/or birth defects, or other reproductive harm. We are providing the following warning for products linked to this page:

For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov

The list contains a wide range of naturally occurring and synthetic chemicals that include additives or ingredients in pesticides, common household products, food, drugs, dyes, or solvents. Listed chemicals may also be used in manufacturing and construction, or they may be byproducts of chemical processes, such as motor vehicle exhaust.

The list of chemicals has grown to include approximately 900 chemicals since it was first published in 1987, and continues to grow each year.

Download the complete list of Prop 65 Chemicals here.

                HOW CAN I PROTECT MYSELF?

The good news is that this law has caused many manufacturers to alter or change the way they produce products, in hopes to make them safer for consumers. However, there are still many items used every day that contain these listed chemicals that cannot be altered. As such, it is important for consumers to be made aware of the dangers and to take precautions when using these items to reduce or eliminate exposure. How you protect yourself largely depends on the product or place and the chemical you are trying to avoid.

If you have specific questions on the administration or implementation of Proposition 65, you can contact OEHHA’s Proposition 65 program at P65.Questions@oehha.ca.gov, or by phone at (916)445-6900.
